Power electronic converters are extensively used in modern industrial, renewable energy, and consumer electronic applications due to their high efficiency and controllability. Among various converter topologies, the Power Factor Correction (PFC) boost converter plays a significant role in improving input power factor, reducing harmonic distortion, and maintaining regulated DC output voltage. However, conventional control techniques often suffer from poor dynamic response, higher overshoot, and reduced robustness under nonlinear and varying load conditions. Therefore, the development of intelligent control strategies for high-performance PFC converters has become an important research area. This thesis presents the system modelling, simulation, and performance analysis of a PFC boost converter using conventional Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) control and intelligent Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) control techniques. The proposed system is designed to operate under continuous conduction mode for improved efficiency and reduced current ripple. Mathematical modelling and design equations of the boost converter are developed to determine suitable values of inductance, capacitance, and switching frequency parameters. A closed-loop PID controller is initially implemented to regulate the output voltage and maintain stable converter operation. To overcome the limitations of PID control, an ANFIS-based intelligent controller is developed using fuzzy inference and neural network learning capability. The ANFIS controller adaptively tunes the control action according to system operating conditions, resulting in improved transient and steady state performance. The system is modelled as well as simulated in MATLAB/Simulink environment. Comparative analysis between PID and ANFIS controllers is carried out based on important performance parameters such as output voltage regulation, rise time, settling time, overshoot, Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), and input power factor. Simulation results demonstrate that the ANFIS controlled PFC boost converter achieves superior harmonic mitigation, faster dynamic response, improved stability, and enhanced power factor correction compared to the conventional PID-controlled system. The proposed intelligent control approach provides an effective solution for high performance and low-harmonic power electronic applications.en_US
