Med-MATE is a smart medication management device to help elderly people remember taking their drugs regularly. Recognizing the multifaceted challenges associated with medication management in older adults, including memory impairment, complex medication regimens, and physical limitations, this project sought to develop a user-centric solution that streamlines and automates drug-taking recognition sought out ways of addressing dementia, complex drugs prescriptions and physical limitations in the elderly. The basic principles of design aimed at making Med-MATE intuitive and easy-to operate for the aged and restoring some independence in their lives. The prototyping process involved the combination of 3D printing and electronic components that are easily available in the market. Plausible structure of Med-MATE device, including exterior and interior medicine bottle, secondary part was Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) 3D printing, material is PLA filament. The various 3D-printed parts were securely assembled using M3 Allen key bolts and threaded inserts, a robust and easily modifiable structure for iterative development. Designed specifically for Med-MATE, the important part is the automated dispensing system, powered by four independent servo motors - one per medicine container. At the time you're due to take the selected medicine, these motors are carefully controlled by an Arduino ESP32 microcontroller, and each raises its designated container in clear view of eye or touch. This is synchronised with an audio alarm from an on-board piezo buzzer offering a multi-sensory reminder system. The medicine container lids being magnetically held down makes Med-MATE a great innovation. This feature goes straight to solving the common problem faced by seniors struggling to take traditional pills because of their weaker grip strength or less coordinated hands. The magnetic lid enables the user to open and close the lid with a gentle twist. It will be an advantage of elders as well as people with arthritis.en_US
