I have briefly reviewed the transportation problem formulation, computational steps to solve the transportation problem model. The method detail steps, such as northwest corner rule, least cost method, Voggel’s approximation methods are rewritten to obtain the initial basic feasible solution for the test of optimality is discussed. The modified distribution method is discussed to test the optimality and improvement of the initial basic feasible solution. I have described a transhipment problem model to discuss the nature of problem and solving process of the problem. Finally, I have mentioned the multi modal transportation problem such as the transportation of crude oil, through the train vessels, transportation through ship vessels and either ships or trains which one will be least cost. I have solved the problems by using the software TORA.en_US
