Abstract: The conventional journal bearing material contains verying amounts of lead (Pb) in it. Pb provides the anti-wear and anti-friction properties. However, Pb has hazardous effects on health and the environment and disposal of lead contained bearing and lubricant having lead particles from the bearing surface is an important issue which needs to be dealt with. Surface texturing of the bearing surface, the material of bearing surface, use of better lubricating conditions are some of the methods which could be utilized to reduce the wear and friction coefficient of the bearing material.
