Abstract: | The fl0w pattern ar0und a bridge pier is c0mplex t0 understand, and the c0mplexity increases with the devel0pment 0f a sc0ur h0le. As a result 0f sc0uring in piers, c0llapse 0f piers in bridges can easily 0ccur s0 it is very imp0rtant t0 understand the variati0n 0f fl0w in and ar0und the piers t0 take s0me fact0r 0f safety in c0nstructing piers .It is an imp0rtant task that design engineers in practice predict the l0cal sc0ur ar0und bridge piers as accurately as p0ssible because excessive l0cal sc0ur ar0und bridge piers unbalance and dem0lish the bridges. Many equati0ns have been pr0p0sed previ0usly by vari0us researchers, based 0n their experimental findings, but n0 general meth0d has been devel0ped s0 far due t0 the c0mplexity 0f the t0pic. In this study 0ur aim is t0 simulate the fl0w ar0und pier and pr0viding the pr0tecti0n devices ar0und the piers. C0llar plates 0f circular and square shapes by varying the diameter 0f the c0llar plates and tw0 piers in line by varying the distance between them were used f0r the reducti0n in the sc0ur depth. The size 0f c0llars c0nsidered f0r the study was 2D,3D,4D and 5D.F0r tw0 piers setup distance between the piers was varied i.e. 2D,3D,4D and 5D,where D is the diameter 0f pier. Results 0f the present study sh0ws circular c0llar with 5 D size was f0und t0 be m0st effective ab0ut 97.78 % reducti0n in sc0ur was n0ted in c0mparis0n t0 single pier with0ut c0llar, in case 0f square c0llar 5D size c0llar give best reducti0n ab0ut 77.11%. and in case 0f Tw0 piers the tread 0f sc0ur depth was decreasing up t0 4D distance and started increasing f0r 5D s0, 4D distance was best suited f0r tw0 piers. |
