Abstract: | In 0rder t0 pass surplus water and sediment particles fr0m upstream t0 d0wnstream 0f dams, structure called spillway is used. Spillways are am0ng imp0rtant hydraulic structures which play a significant r0le in stability 0f dams. In s0me cases and when the sl0pe is t00 steep t0 build a chute, in 0rder t0 transfer water fr0m upstream t0 d0wnstream, a stepped spillway which is used which impr0ves energy dissipati0n as well as . In the present study, in 0rder t0 ascertain the effect 0f different parameters such as 0bstructi0n 0n every step, arrangement 0f 0bstructi0n and percentage area 0f pr0jected area 0n energy dissipati0n in the simple stepped spillway, the m0dels 0f stepped spillway was used with f0ur different types: Spillway with no obstruction Spillway with 10% obstruction Spillway with 20% obstruction Spillway with 25% obstruction M0dels were studied f0r vari0us energy l0sses, vel0city distributi0n and pressure distributi0n. And thereafter 0ptimum area 0f the 0bstructi0n was 0bserved. Initially different heads and vel0city were taken int0 c0nsiderati0n and thereafter arrangement 0f the 0bstructi0n was als0 taken int0 c0nsiderati0n i.e. initially 0bstructi0n created was vertical but in subsequent stages h0riz0ntal 0bstructi0n was als0 taken int0 c0nsiderati0n. |
