Abstract: ABSTRACT Study of the characteristics of hydraulic jump in a rectangular channel at different slope has been carried out in the present work. The study involves both experimental investigation and analytical computation. In the end comparisons are made between analytical and experimental results. The experiments have been carried out in the rectangular horizontal channel in the hydraulics laboratory of the department of Civil Engineering, Delhi Technological University. The necessary related instrumentations have been designed and installed as part of the present work. The efficiency, relative height of jump, relative energy loss, sequent depth ratio, and height of the jump have been obtained and compared. Fairly reasonable result has been obtained between experimental and analytical results. Some discrepancies are attributed to the unsteadiness of the flow, roughness of the channel bed and inherent assumptions in the derivation of the equations for theoretical computations. Future works are possible with improved instrumentations, and complete CFD simulation for the flow.
