dc.description.abstract | hielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) is the oldest, simplest, most popular, efficient, versatile and flexible process used for fabrication purposes all over the world. And of all the ferrous and non ferrous metals welded with this process, mild and low alloy steel varieties are the most popular ones. According to a rough estimate, of all the SMAW coated electrodes produced the world over 80% are for welding mild and low alloy steel varieties and the rest for all the other weldable metals. Due to rapid advancements in the field of steel manufacturing, newer varieties of mild and low alloy steels, with better strengths and toughness are being developed, which has posed a strong challenge before the SMAW electrode manufacturers to develop welding electrodes that can deposit weld beads on such steels which has both high yield strength and excellent Charpy V – notch impact toughness. SMAW electrode designing for modern day steels has been until recently a complicated and tedious process... | en_US |
