Abstract: Spam, officially called unsolicited bulk email (UBE) or unsolicited commercial email (UCE), has long become a social problem and even brought serious threat to the Cyber Security. The statistics has shown that 10.4 million spam emails are sent every minute worldwide, and the spam has at least quadrupled in the past two years. These annoying mails not only waste the end users’ time to deal with them, but also consume large amount of bandwidth as well as enormous volume of server storage. Many approaches have been investigated to tackle spam problem, but the most important methods for detecting and removing spam are based on: source address filtering, keyword filtering (pattern matching, content based filters). Keyword filtering seems to be the most powerful among mentioned methods, but using it causes the risk of classifying a legitimate e-mail as spam.
