Abstract: | In the earlier ages human lived in harmony with nature getting all requirements from their surroundings. There was a complete balance in ecosystems of the biosphere. But in the last hundred years humans have interfered with natural resources with many undesirable activities. The consequences can be left in the deteriorating quality and destruction of various ecosystems. Some extremely serious consequences of environment degradation are looming large before the human race. Pollution is a natural outcome of his developmental and industrial activities. The problem has been worsened by fast population growth, changing lifestyles and urbanization. The cumulative effect of rapid population growth, fast industrialization and urbanization, modernization in life-style and increasing consumerist attitudes has put enormous pressure on land cover and has brought about a major change in the pattern of landuse.
