Abstract: | ABSTRACT This dissertation work presents the study of factors, which affect the design, and performance of an electrostatic precipitator along with the design of an electrostatic precipitator for real life flue gas emission conditions for Power Plants. Fossil fueled boilers and furnace emit fly ash as suspended particle alongwith flue gases. ESPs have proved their ability to separate out suspended particulate matter from flue gas emissions. Use of ESP is spreading to new branches of industry viz. controlling of SPM level in rooms and vehicles. The aim of project was to study the various factors on the ESP performance and to design an ESP for given design conditions. Two types of configuration viz. cylindrical ESP and wire-and plate type ESP have been designed. It is found that for the same efficiency and design condition, wire-and-plate type ESP requires less surface area, thus presents an economical model.
