Abstract: In developing countries like India the health care institutions are increasing in order to meet the health care facilities required by the growing population. This increase in health care facilities is directly proportional to the generation of Bio-Medical waste. The disposal of this waste, particularly the waste contaminated with communicable disease agents such as AIDS and Hepatitis B virus, is one of the major problems today as its unscientific disposal can create threat to human existence. Therefore it is strongly recommended to adopt adequate and efficient methods of waste handling and disposal. A case study was organized at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Rajender Nagar, New Delhi to study the various steps taken for the management of Bio-Medical waste in an integrated and efficient manner and to quantitatively estimate the amount of non-infectious and infectious waste generated in different wards/sections.
