Abstract: Cooling towers are heat exchangers that are used to dissipate large heat load to the atmosphere. In conventional tower due to salt deposition on the packing and subsequent blockage, the use of tower packing is not practical. A cooling tower without packing is an ideal choice to overcome it; hence a type of evaporative cooling tower without fill is described briefly in this report. A SHOWER COOLING TOWER can be used for comfort air cooling in buildings or in power & process industry where circulating water cooling is main criterion. Both the applications i.e. Downdraft cooling tower and general shower cooling tower are analyzed in this report. A computer program is developed in MATLAB software to solve design and performance analysis problems of mechanical draft shower cooling towers. Various subroutines to calculate mean temperature, specific heat of water, vapor pressure, humidity ratio, latent heat, enthalpy for dry air and air-water vapor mixture, Lewis number etc. were made using t...
