Abstract: The river diversion work plays a vital role in actual construction of any work in the bed of a natural river. Therefore to construct the dam, it will be necessary to divert the river from its natural bed to give access to the river bottom in a dewatered condition during the non-monsoon period. The design of river diversion works and its various components depend upon numerous factors. The main component of the river diversion works are Coffer Dam, Inlet Structure and Tunnel Support. There are different types of coffer dams such as Masonry/concrete/ colloidal concrete coffer dams, Earthfill/rockfill coffer dams, Steel coffer dams, and Timber coffer dams.
